The “2014 Scientists Discovery Project” Award Ceremony

07.08.2014

On July 30, 2014, (Wed.), an award ceremony entitled “The 2014 Scientists Discovery Project” was held in the 50th Anniversary Auditorium at Hirosaki University.

The aim of this project is to recruit students from elementary school to high school level across a wide area to uncover the everyday seemingly insignificant questions, ideas or fleeting interests they may have about life. Then, researchers take some of these ideas and develop them in order to establish an interactive experience between the researchers and the young students. This has been going on since 2008, as a way for the university to contribute to the local communities.

From the proposed research topics that the students have submitted a few are selected based on the possibility of actual execution, as well as the uniqueness and originality of the idea. In the end, nine topics (three from elementary schools, three from junior high schools, and three from high schools) were selected and given a “Topic Award.” These topics are to be adapted into research project for the researchers. For example, Rion Murosaki, a 5th grader at the elementary school attached to Hirosaki University, won a “Topic Award” with his question; “Why does a solar panel work or not depending on the type of light?”

※ This project offers ONLY students in Aomori.
