Classification of international Students
Scholarship Classification
Japanese Government Scholarship International Students
Japanese Government Scholarship Students are those who are engaged
in study or research at a university or some other institution under
a Japanese Government (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science
and Technology) Scholarship.
Privately-Funded International Students
1) Overseas Government Scholarship Students
Overseas Government Scholarship Students are those who have been
sent by their governments to promote development of human resources,
and have been accepted into a Japanese university through the Ministry
of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
Malaysian Government Scholarship Students
Chinese Government Scholarship Students
Indonesian Government Scholarship Students
2) Privately-Funded Students
Privately-funded students are those other than Overseas Government
Scholarship Students. They may be granted scholarships from Japanese
prefectural governments or private organizations.
Students Status Classifications
Undergraduate Students
Applicants must be of non-Japanese nationality and have satisfactorily
completed 12 years of schooling in a country other than Japan.
Applicants must first take the Japanese University Admission for
International Students(EJU) administered by the Association of International
Education, Japan, and then pass the entrance examination of Hirosaki
University to be accepted.
Those Students who are enrolled in a four-year degree course will
be awarded a bachelor's degree after obtaining the specified number
of credits in their course.
Graduate Students
Applicants must be graduates from an accredited university or those
who have satisfactorily completed 16 years of schooling in a country
other than Japan.
Both Japanese Government Scholarship students and privately-funded
students must pass the entrance examination of the faculty they
wish to enter.
Those students who are enrolled in a master's degree course for
two years or more will be awarded a master's degree after obtaining
the specified number of credits in their course.
Research Students
Undergraduate Research Students:
Applicants must be university graduates, or must have satisfactorily
completed 16 years of schooling in a country other than Japan.
Graduate Research Students:
Applicants must be university graduates with a master's degree.
The selection of research students is based on the examination of
submitted documents.
Research students will be engaged in research work under the guidance
of their academic adviser for a year.
Should students wish to extend their period of research, they should
apply to a graduate-course committee for an examination.
Auditors
Undergraduate Auditors
Applicants must be high school graduates.
Graduate Auditors: Applicants must be university graduates.
The selection of auditors is based on the examination of submitted
documents.
(Auditors must take 7 or more classes [10 hours] per week.) The period of study granted to auditors is 6 months or one year.
They can apply for an extension to continue their studies.
Subject Students
Undergraduate Subject Students:
Applicants must be high school graduates.
The selection of subject students is based on the examination of
submitted documents.
(Subject students must take 7 or more classes [10 hours] per week.)
Credit will be given if the student passes the examination.
Graduate Subject Students:
Applicants must be university graduates.
The Selection of subject students is based on the examination of
submitted documents.
(Subject students must take 7 or more classes [10 hours] per week.)
Credit will be given if the student passes the examination.
Special Auditors
Applicants must be enrolled in their home
university.
The Selection of special auditors is based on discussion between
cooperating universities and examination of submitted documents.
(Special auditors must take 7 or more classes [10 hours] per week.)
Credit will be given if the student passes the examination.
