International Exchange Courses

What are International Exchange Courses?

Courses in the Hirosaki University Curriculum are offered in three categories:

21st Century Courses (University-wide general education)
Specialized Education Courses (Offered by each faculty)
International Exchange Courses (Offered by the International Exchange Center, primarily for International students)

Courses in the regular curriculum for Japanese students, which include both 21st Century Courses and Specialized Education Courses in all faculties except for the School of Medicine are open to International students who have achieved a sufficient standard of Japanese language proficiency.

International Exchange Courses are designed for International students who require Japanese language training and also offer students an opportunity to study areas of interest in English. Of these, Japanese Language Classes are divided into five levels, ranging from beginners to advanced classes. They are geared to train students in Japanese for academic purposes, and are taught by highly qualified teachers. Classes taught in English cover areas of interest to International Students, such as Japanese business, Japanese culture and arts and other fields. They emphasize practical experience as a key to learning, and feature lectures given by business practitioners and artisans, field trips and regional observation. Lectures given by professors from the faculties on their area of expertise cover a wide and rich range of studies such as international relations, public policy, history and agriculture. Japanese students are encouraged to attend International Exchange Courses with International students to promote a shared academic experience. Access the links for detailed course descriptions.
