14.04.2014

On Wednesday March 19, at Aomori International Hotel in Aomori City, Aomori Prefecture awarded the Grand Prize in the Product category section of “The Life Innovation Award” to Hirosaki University together with Kakuhiro Corporation for its valuable work in research and programs to support the commercialization and marketing of Proteoglycan (PG).

“The Life Innovation Award 2013 (Aomori)” was established by Aomori Prefecture in 2013 in order to recognize the “next generation of innovators” in the life sciences (medical care, health, and welfare) and related fields that aim to promote innovation through groundbreaking, creative, and challenging new approaches that can successfully contribute to the development of new opportunities and local industries.

At the ceremony, Aomori Governor, Mr. Mimura, presented Nakane (Hirosaki University Representative) a certificate of merit and a memorial trophy for his involvement with “the formation and expansion of the health and beauty industry cluster within the Tsugaru region as a core part of proteoglycan related biomaterials”.

Each recipient made a short speech. Nakane, in charge of the project, said that the late TAKAGAKI Keiichi of the School of Medicine made a great effort to develop mass production technologies that led a breakthrough in PG industrialization. To honor Dr. Takagaki’s work, Dr. Nakane stated that the research should be continued in accordance with his intentions. He also mentioned that various findings from previous research have been reported that have further elucidated our understanding of PG.
