[Award] URA KUDO Shigemitsu Received the “Innovation Coordinator Grand Prize, MEXT Award”

URA*1) KUDO Shigemitsu, Hirosaki University COI Research Initiatives Organization, received the “Innovation Coordinator Grand Prize, MEXT*2) Award 2014” from the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) on November 11, 2014 at Tsukuba International Congress Center (Tsukuba City, Ibraki Prefecture).

He has dedicated himself to various coordinating activities such as initiating the project to commercialize items developed from this project, which include cosmetics and supplements. His work has contributed to the industrialization of Proteoglycan (PG), by utilizing technological development to extract PG from salmon nasal cartilage. The efforts that he has made have brought significant industrial achievements and business activity to the local regions within Aomori Prefecture.

Innovation Coordinator Grand Prize, MEXT Award 2014
This prize, which was established in 2008 by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), is awarded to individuals who show deep dedication to coordinating activities for creating innovation in the fields of science and technology. This prize awards those within academia who have developed effective technological ideas that have promising commercial potential and can therefore successfully build a bridge between industries and universities.
