Message from President

Hirosaki University was founded more than 70 years ago, in 1949, meaning that the official start date of our university coincides with the establishment of the current Japanese higher educational system.

Principle and Goals

Hirosaki University has, in the spirit of the Basic Act on Education, established the following institutional goals: 1) to incorporate extensive bodies of knowledge into our campus culture; 2) to engage in the teaching of and research in a broad range of specialized scholarly fields; 3) to educate persons of character and integrity who can contribute to human culture.

History

Hirosaki University was established in the former castle town of Hirosaki in 1949. It is a national university and is located in Aomori Prefecture, situated at the northern end of Honshu Island.

Institutions and Facilities

Nuclear facilities are operating in Aomori Prefecture and the preparedness for radiation emergency is of cardinal importance for the foundation of energy policy of our country. Institute of Radiation Emergency Medicine promotes the research on radiation emergency and supports the education in the faculties and graduate schools in Hirosaki University and generates various professionals required in nuclear and medical facilities in Aomori and all over Japan.
